Veg Cheese Toast

Thinly slice one medium sized onion and half a capsicum.
Heat a pan with 1 tsp of oil, saute the onion and capsicum for a minute or two. Sprinkle little salt and sweet paprika for that flavor and color. Remove from heat.
Spread this saute-d veg mixture on one slice of the bread. Keep a cheese slice on top of it. Cover with the other slice.
Toast on a butter greased pan till golden brown.

Cheese French Toast

Beat one egg, with 1 tbsp of milk, a pinch of salt, a pinch of oregano and a pinch of chilli flakes.
Keep a Cheese Slice in between two slices of bread.
Soak them well in the egg mixture.
And toast on a butter greased pan till golden brown.
Totally yummy, oozing with cheese in the center !

Vella Appam

This Vella Appam is one of the most favorite dishes of my daughters and of course, the Lord Krishna !!! πŸ™‚

And making this dish for the Janmashtami gives me immense satisfaction !!

Here is the easy recipe to make this yummy dish πŸ™‚


Wheat flour (Atta) – 2 cups

Rice flour – 1/2 cup

Jaggery (crushed) – 2 cups in heap

Cardamom – 8 to 9 pods peeled and crushed to a fine powder

Coconut grated – 1/2 cup

The Ingredients


1. Boil about 2.5 cups of water. Add the crushed jaggery to it. Let the jaggery melt.

2. Take both the flours in a vessel, mix well.

3. Add the crushed cardamom to it.

4. Use 1 cup of coconut if you like the taste or you can totally avoid coconut from this dish.

5. Mix well.

6. Now, pour in the filtered jaggery mixture in the flour and keep mixing well, so that no lumps are formed.

7. After it is mixed well, leave this mixture to rest for a minimum of one hour.

8. Now, that the mixture is rested well, we can start making the appams. You can use either an Appakarai or your regular deep pan for frying !!!

9. Pour in a mixture of ghee and oil for that wonderful fragrance later !!!

10. Always remember to fry on medium heat.

11. When the oil is heated, start by scooping a tablespoon Β of batter in each indentation. If you are using a deep pan, only one can be done at a time.

12. Turn it around when one side is done.

13. Do them in batches till the batter is done with.

14. The deliciously yummy vella appams are ready to be eaten πŸ™‚

Sago Cutlets

Adapted from Smitha’s recipe, here is one of the yummy snack dish that you can do for the kids and make them eat it too.


1 cup sago – Soak for 3 hours
2 medium boiled potatoes – As an alternative, you can use the ready made Aloo mash
3 Β green chillies – finely cut
1 cup peanuts – roasted and coarsely ground
1/2 inch grated ginger
Salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice – or as per taste
Chopped coriander / mint / spinach / methi leaves
1. Mash the boiled potatoes. If using Aloo mash, just add the required amount of water.
2. Add in all the other ingredients to the mashed potatoes – the soaked sago, green chillies, peanuts, ginger, lemon juice, salt and the greens as per your choice.
3. Mix well.
4. Shape the dough into flat cutlets.
5. Grease a baking sheet or tray and place the cutlets in them. Spray some cooking oil on the cutlets.
6. Bake until golden brown at 200 C for around 20 mins. Turn them around midway through the process of baking.
7. Alternatively you can shallow fry them in a non-stick pan.
